The continuation of a rolling programme of refurbishment works of the on-campus student accommodation at the University of York.  A multi-phased renovation scheme across three blocks, with a general make up of 72 student rooms.

Acting as the Principal Contractor, Harris Evolution carefully coordinated works so that multiple phases could be run in tandem.  Strategic planning and early allocation of labour and materials enabled the team to execute this fast-paced programme of works within a tight time-frame.  In addition, a dedicated Site Manager was appointed to oversee and manage various trades to ensure the project would be delivered to brand standards on time, ready for the new academic year.

Location:

York

Duration:

7 weeks

Over a period of 7 weeks, the team refurbished a total of 72 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, 72 ensuite bathrooms and 9 corridors.  The scope of works included a full decoration and new flooring, replacement of white goods and bedroom furniture, full strip-out and installation of WC’s and en-suites, new lighting, various M&E upgrades as well as external decorations and associated works.

Whilst the student accommodation blocks identified within this project were vacant, the adjacent buildings were occupied.  To mitigate any disruption caused by these works, due consideration was essential throughout and involved extensive communication with client’s project team so that any impact to the residents was kept to a minimum.
