Shaw Healthcare, Sycamore Lodge
Sycamore Lodge is committed to offering outstanding care to its elderly residents. Understanding the need to refresh its surroundings to better serve residents and visitors alike, Shaw Healthcare embarked on an extensive refurbishment, selecting Harris Evolution to oversee the project. The primary objective was to revitalise the lodge’s worn corridors and atrium, transforming them into warm, welcoming spaces for residents, their guests, and the staff. This refurbishment was designed not only to repair signs of wear and tear but also to elevate the lodge’s aesthetic and functional appeal.
The refurbishment encompassed a comprehensive range of enhancements to breathe new life into Sycamore Lodge. A crucial element was upgrading the flooring in the corridors and atrium, selecting materials that combined durability with comfort and style. The introduction of a garden room, complete with arches, provided a serene space for residents to connect with nature and enjoy moments of tranquility. The project also included the complete overhaul of a PDA bathroom and visitor bathroom, ensuring accessibility and ease of use for all.

Aesthetic and functional enhancements included the installation of stainless steel handrails in the atrium, cladding of old steel beams and the construction of planter boxes. The transformation of the atrium also included upgraded lighting, a modernised reception area with new desks, wall paneling, and the installation of a kitchenette. A media wall unit was also installed to serve as an entertainment hub for residents and visitors.
Executing a refurbishment in an occupied setting presented unique challenges, particularly within a care home environment where the well-being of residents is paramount. Working closely with Shaw Healthcare’s management team, Harris Evolution navigated these challenges with precision and empath by adopting a flexible approach to the work schedule, adjustments were made daily to accommodate the care home’s requirements, minimizing disruption. To reduce the impact on daily life, significant installations, such as the atrium flooring, were conducted overnight.
Through careful planning, work areas were isolated to ensure the safety and comfort of residents and staff, maintaining the lodge’s calm atmosphere. Recognising the dynamic needs of the care home, the project adapted its timelines, prioritising the community’s needs above all. Today, the lodge boasts an updated, welcoming space that reflects the warmth and care provided within its walls.
