Located in the heart of the historic city of Bath, Queen Ann House is a Grade II listed former church that recently underwent a sensitive and inspiring transformation. This ambitious project involved the conversion of a former office block into six high-quality apartments and one elegant townhouse — all while carefully preserving and restoring the building’s architectural heritage.
A central focus of the project was the conservation and restoration of the building’s historic fabric. Extensive repairs were carried out to the Bath Stone masonry, addressing age-related deterioration and ensuring the longevity of this iconic material. To further enhance and protect the stonework, the façade was gently and thoroughly cleaned using the approved Doff steam cleaning method — a non-abrasive technique ideal for historic stone surfaces.
Another key aspect of the restoration involved specialist upgrade repairs to the building’s original stained glass feature window. This delicate work was undertaken with precision to maintain the craftsmanship and character of the historic glazing while improving its structural integrity and performance.
Internally, the transformation involved significant structural alterations to create a modern and functional layout. The lower, ground, and first floors were sub-divided using partitions to create the new residential units, all while respecting the building’s original form and features.
Each unit was thoughtfully finished with high-quality touches, including sleek modern kitchens, elegant bathrooms, refined ceramic tiling, soft flooring, and a meticulous painting and decoration scheme. These enhancements introduce modern comfort and functionality, thoughtfully integrated to complement and elevate the building’s period charm.
