Phase 1: Summer Works 2024

The first phase focused on fully refurbishing 195 studio bedrooms and several corridors. This involved removing old materials, redecorating, and upgrading the communal floors. To modernise the amenities, new blinds, sealants, and electrical systems were installed. New bedroom furniture was installed to enhance comfort and functionality. In the kitchens, cupboard doors were replaced for a refreshed look, while bathrooms were updated with new shower heads, screens, toilet seats, and sealants. Combi-microwaves were installed in every room, and any replaced appliances were recycled. This phase was completed within the planned 9-week timeframe.

Phase 2: Conversion of Store Rooms

The second phase involved converting two unused store rooms into modern studio apartments. This transformation complied with the Building Safety Act due to the building’s high-rise nature. Harris Evolution secured all necessary approvals and authorisations, ensuring adherence to strict safety standards. The construction included new bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms, with each studio apartment furnished with essential pieces to create functional and stylish living spaces.

Beyond interior upgrades, the project also focused on external enhancements. A new smoke shaft was installed, and cobblestone areas were added to enhance the surroundings. Communal spaces were improved with outdoor furniture and lighting, creating a welcoming environment where students can relax and socialise.

Through meticulous planning and execution, Harris Evolution has successfully transformed iQ Aldgate into a modern and vibrant living space for students. The refurbishment not only upgraded the interior facilities but also enhanced the exterior environment, meeting the high standards expected by today’s students.
